Who We Are

NAMI Portage County’s mission aligns with that of NAMI Ohio: At NAMI Ohio, our mission is to ensure that individuals and families affected by mental illness have the resources, support, and advocacy they need to thrive. We are committed to: Support: Offering compassionate support groups, peer programs, and resources for individuals and families navigating the challenges of mental illness. Education: Providing educational programs, workshops, and materials to enhance understanding and reduce stigma around mental illness. We strive to empower our community with knowledge and tools to manage mental health effectively. Advocacy: Championing policy changes and advocating for mental health reforms at the local, state, and national levels. We work to influence mental health policy and ensure that the needs of individuals impacted by mental illness are met. NAMI was started in 1978 by families concerned with care and resources for their loved ones living with mental health conditions.
