Who We Are

Mission: Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

Habitat for Humanity of Portage County (HFHPC) is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles. Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman, and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all. Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds, and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion.

What We Do

Habitat for Humanity of Portage County is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide:

  • through constructing, rehabilitating, and preserving homes;
  • by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and
  • by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.

Through our Neighborhood Revitalization and Aging in Place programs, we provide critical home repairs to Portage County residents who qualify. We help revitalize neighborhoods, help seniors age in place, assist veterans with home repairs, and help community partners complete projects within Portage County. Our Habitat homeowners have access to interest-free homes through our programs, allowing them to make an affordable monthly mortgage payment.

Once we complete a project for (with) a community member, it doesn’t end there! They are now part of the Habitat family – and we are ready and willing to help them through the next season of their life. Through our various partnerships with other community stakeholders, we offer a Literacy Program and Homeowner Education Program to our Habitat homeowners.
