Mission: To promote public health, prevent disease, and protect the environment, utilizing leadership and partnership to empower individuals and communities to achieve optimal health.
We believe that healthy people lead to healthy environments, which lead to healthy communities. We meet our mission, vision, and values by providing the 10 Essential Services of Public Health through our Administrative, Finance, Environmental Health, Health Education & Promotion, Nursing, and WIC Divisions under the leadership of our Health Commissioner and Medical Director.
What We Do
Administration/Finance: The administrative and finance staff provide the infrastructure of the health district, providing budget, financial, and fiscal management and issuance of permits and licenses for environmental health programs and services.
Environmental Public Health: Environmental health specialists work every day to protect and strengthen communities by preventing illness and improving health through three core functions within the 10 Essential Environmental Public Health Services: assessment, policy development, and assurance.
Health Education and Promotion: Health educators strive to make positive change in the community through the programs and services provided, in addition to promoting Emergency Preparedness, Environmental Health and Nursing education, and Public Health Accreditation within the health district.
Nursing: The Public Health Nursing Division conducts childhood and adult immunization clinics, investigates communicable diseases, performs case management services for families who have children with special health care needs and more.
WIC (Women, Infant and Children): WIC helps income eligible pregnant and breastfeeding women, women who recently had a baby, infants, and children up to five years of age who are at health risk due to inadequate nutrition.
